ginoong tagabasta este rasta (joke din

)...pine-prepare ko nga itong postion paper na sinaggest na gawin ko ni kabanalan. actually naging spin-off lang ang English language class...oops pala---for the benefit of our other forumers who would rather read in English---okay, my soon-to-be written position paper actually will root for a continuing adult education program with English classes as one of the main subjects. I have observed that a lot of Puerto Galerans need a lot of other academic tools---from Math to Science etc. What I can foresee for now should be a customized educational module that will make local Puerto Galerans everywhere feel welcome to join and share their know-how even. When I say English or anything else for that matter---this is English to communicate with, know-how to add to improve one's life, etc. Nothing fancy or university-type of subjects. And each barangay has to be empowered to be a hub of its own human development. There only has to be a creative initiator or initiators for each area. If the barangay captain won't fit the picture then let it be a councelor or a civic leader who will be acceptable to the whole community. I can see that the hurdles to be seen are petty wars between this and that---my family against this family and so forth and so on (for whatever issue they can think of) but that a core group start first in helping each other better themselves. Then either the crab mentality will set in OR everyone decides to join and study! It is always a risk and a gamble...but hey! we should start somewhere!! I believe that it is time to go for this. God works in mysterious ways so nothing is by accident. First, it came with your friend's dilemma, bastarasta...then somehow, from Above it was whispered to me and some other forum-er that English should be offered as subject not just in schools but for everyone working in Puerto Galera. Yes, the pervading attitude is that whoever (young people we know told us this) tries to speak English is branded as snooty or trying hard to be of the "rich". However that came into these people's heads is a mystery but nevertheless smacks of plain stupidity/selfishness or wanting no one to be "better" than them. "Let's all stay together in our backward-ness and ignorance" seems to be the general attitude where I live. So, the only way we counter that is by talking to these bright children about going for it---study hard and speak English to us!
Yes, bastarasta, Mr Stellander, lighthouse, tagavictoria, kabanalan, netmagus (and all other forum-ers)---I have an idea and I am in the process of organizing my thoughts. This is all I can offer in all honesty because I have really other things to get active on in my small part of Puerto Galera here. I am just happy to be part of this forum and once i get my position paper out, I hope a good number of people give it some thought, improve on it and put it into action for the good of all our fellowmen who are just waiting for another opportunity to learn more.
God bless US ALL!
