Arrests at the Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival
To say that up-front; every event, wherever hold has to deal with People, some of them follow the rules, others don’t.
So, our very own Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival ain’t different. Festivals are often perceived as having raucous teenagers, excessive drinking and deafening music. However, this idyllic and tranquil festival combines the best of both worlds. Deemed as the ultimate festival for families, the organizers trying very hard to keep controlled substances, firearms and such out of the event, but some folks are sure innovative, if it comes with the smuggling of prohibited substances. So happen, also this time.
Friday, the opening day of the event, the first arrest had to be made. In the Evening Hours, a Remar Sales Nieva, male, 28 y/o, single, tricycle driver and a resident of West Washington Drive, Legazpi City, Albay arrived in Puerto Galera with one target only, to allegedly sell Marijuana, prohibited by law to the participants of the event. I am sure, he was planning to spend his weekend among the party crowds, but he will have to spend more than that time for sure inside a lock up area now. Arrested for the possession of a whole gin bottle filled with crushed Marijuana leafs, he is awaiting the Monday when he will be presented to the courts in the detention cell at the Municipal Police Station in Puerto Galera.
He is not alone, Saturday around 10pm, a Tourist from the USA was arrested for possession of the same illegal substance at the grounds of the Festival. He made the slight mistake to reportedly smoke grass in the open and spotted by PNP personnel, who was for the first time inside the event area present. Since the war against drugs has started in the Philippines, even smaller amounts of controlled substances are causing big problems and the Local Police, lead under the Supervision of PCINSP LAWRENCE V PANGANIBAN, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office IV-B MIMAROPA take their jobs, the war against drugs very seriously.
