Viva Malasimbo 2017

Malasimbo music and arts festival is happening on March 10-12. Now on its 7th year, the Malasimbo has evolved to be one of the most awaited events in the country.

Ticketworld, the biggest ticket selling company in the Philippines, is amazed at the record sales being generated with foreigners from over 32 countries coming to the event.

Needless to say, tourist establishments benefit very much from the more than 5000 Malasimbo fans who are mostly moneyed tourists.

Behind it all is d’Aboville Foundation and VU Entertainment (Miro). Behind the d’Aboville Foundation  is a Frenchman, a long-time adopted son of Puerto Galera, Monsieur Hubert d’Aboville.

Mr. d’Aboville is also the president and founder of the Puerto Galera most beautiful bay club and has been very active in promoting the tourist industry and safeguarding the environment of Puerto Galera.

This year, Mr. d’ Aboville said, that thousands of tourists will once more come for the festival and he is urging the people of Puerto Galera to continue to support the event. He also announced a considerable discounted ticket rate for resident of Puerto Galera. Tickets can bought at the gate.

Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival pioneered the true form of contemporary music festival in the Philippines in 2011. Now on its 7th edition, Malasimbo is the longest standing and most sustainable international music festival of the country. It has become a reference and key player in South East Asia. Locally, it has inspired the entertainment and music industry which has seen a boom in recent years.

In 2016, Malasimbo held two events in front of 6,000 people: Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival and Malasimbo Lights and Dance Festival.

The music at Malasimbo has seen some of the world’s best Jazz, Soul, World and Dance music legends and contemporaries, such as Roy Ayers, Osunlade, Jimmy Cliff, DJ Goldie, Joss Stone, Jose Gonzalez, DJ Spinna, Ky-mani Marley, Fred Wesley, DJ Kentaro, Omar, Mad Professor, DJ Krush, Quincy Jones presents Jacob Collier, and many more.

Hailed as the Coachella of Asia, Malasimbo’s Sculpture Garden is a witness to the festival’s love for the visual arts. The grounds have been blessed by the amazing works of talented contemporary Filipino artists. In 6 years, more than 60 artists have used the venue as a canvas for their art installation. Whether permanent or degradable, loud or discreet, phantasmagoric or natural, interactive or silent, the works all have a synergy with the mountain, the landscape, the wind, the ocean or the festival’s creative energy. The artists are inherently a part of the festival’s soul which contributes to the Malasimbo Magic.

Malasimbo holds a conscientious regard for eco-cultural tourism promotion and development in the Philippines. The d’Aboville Foundation honors the island’s indigenous people, the Mangyans, through its community program. A permanent demo Mangyan Village was built in 2011 on the festival grounds to showcase the lifestyle of the Mangyant tribes of Mindoro. Roster of social activities in Mindoro include mangrove and tree planting, the use of solar power, the protection of the endangered tamaraws, coastal cleanups, teaching and preserving the ancient Mangyan writing called Surat, scholarships to Mangyan students, and even distribution of water filters to poor families.

Philippine tourism has witness tremendous growth since 2012 and is the new sunshine industry. It is a key priority to the Government which has developed effective tourism marketing and branding, namely through the “More Fun in the Philippines” Campaign. Malasimbo Festival has been in partnership with the Department of Tourism since its debut in 2011. It is endorsed by the DOT as a catalyst for the advancement of the country’s culture and arts, and was chosen to be one of the 15 key events that are featured in the DOT’s “Visit the Philippines Year 2015” national campaign.
